Slovakia to make most cars per head

13 April 2004: Slovakia will become the world's number one producer of cars in terms of population when two new facilities are completed.

South Korean carmaker Hyundai says that it and seven
supplier firms would invest a total $1.4 billion into a new European production center there, and a similar sized project is being built by French carmaker PSA Peugeot-Citroen.

Slovakia has a population comparable to Ireland, with 5.4 million people. A 280,000 car-per-year plant run by Volkswagen is currently the backbone of the country's car industry.
