Motorists prefer fuel taxes

29 January 2004: Nearly two-thirds of British drivers want all car-related taxes to be charged on fuel, according to the RAC which conducted a recent survey.

A spokesman for the RAC said if all tax was put on fuel, it would shake up the current system and show charges in a far more visible way.

And more than half of the respondents said that proposed satellite-toll systems infringed on privacy - less than a quarter supported such a scheme.
