15 April 2002: Toyota Motor Europe Marketing and Engineering (TMME) sold an all-time record 204,353 units in the period from January to March 2002, an increase of some 15%over the first quarter of 2001. TMME also enjoyed all-time record unit sales for the month of March, with 85,791 units sold - an increase of 17% over the same month last year.
March sales gave Toyota a record 4.7 % market share in Europe, up from 3.8% in 2001. TMMEs market share for the first three months reached 4.5%, up from 3.7 % last year, setting yet another record.
Toyotas RAV4 (9,703 units) and Yaris (28,715 units) models posted record sales, with a 121% and 30% increase respectively over March 2001 sales. Sales for the new Toyota Corolla totalled 19,453 units in March, adding up to 45,751 for the first quarter. Toyota expects monthly Corolla sales to rise even further given the well-filled order bank.
