22 January 2003: Ford Ireland has announced prices for the new Transit TDCi range that has been added to the company's van line-up. Available on front wheel drive versions, the Transit TDCi retails from E21,517 ex-Cork.
TDCi is a common rail diesel featuring improved performance and refinement over the standard TD engines, which continue to power the majority of Transit models on offer.
There are a total of 11 standard configurations of Transit TDCi, in short, medium and long wheel bases and low, medium and high roof heights. The 2.0 litre 5-speed Duratorq common rail engine delivers 125PS and a top speed of 100mph. Despite a 25% increase in power and a 19% gain in acceleration, fuel economy has improved by 5%.
"The smoothness and responsiveness of TDCi set it apart from conventional diesel power plants," says Eddie Murphy, Chairman and Managing Director, Ford Ireland. "For the van operator, TDCi is a real pleasure to work with."
The Ford Transit was Irelands best-selling commercial vehicle in 2002, with over 5,000 units. It has been joined in the Ford line-up for 2003 by the all-new Transit Connect, which targets the growing sub-one tonne segment. Recently awarded the International Van of the Year accolade, Transit Connect also features the Duratorq TDCi powertrain.
