Truck blind spot highlighted

16 May 2003: A 'blind spot' on the fronts of high-sided trucks is to become the subject of correspondence between Dublin's City Coroner and the Department of the Environment, and may result in a regulation that such vehicles have front-facing mirrors.

This follows the death of 91-year-old Dublin man Martin Miley last November, when he crossed the road directly in front of a recycling truck.

An inquest heard that the driver of the truck couldn't see Mr Miley, though he and his crew had checked the sides and rear of the vehicle before moving off.
