Safe tyres campaign week
02 May 2003: May 2 Continental Tyres/Advance Pitstop have launched a nationwide tyre safety 'blitz' to take place this coming week.
The campaign is against a background of suggestions that up to one in four Irish motorists are driving on dangerous tyres.
Teams of safety staff will be at 31 locations around the country next Friday and Saturday (May 9 and 10), distributing tyre tread gauges to motorists. The gauge allows the motorist to easily make sure the tread depth is above the legal limit of 1.6mm.
Motorists driving on tyres below this limit are now subject to on-the-spot fines by the Gardai.
Motorists are also being encouraged to visit any of 31 Advance Pitstop outlets in Ireland for a free tyre check.
