Volvo survey shows scary driving

31 May 2003: A study carried out by Volvo in the US found that 91 per cent of drivers admit to 'taking risks' when they are driving.

The risks admitted to include speeding, eating and even reading at the wheel.

Speeding was admitted by 71 per cent of drivers surveyed, while 37 per cent said they used cell phones, 28 per cent didn't wear seatbelts, and a scary 26 per cent never used indicators while turning.

Fourteen per cent said they regularly read while driving.

Those most likely to to engage in risky driving were in the 26-44 age group.
