VW pumps up Polo diesel

22 December 2003: Volkswagen has popped its 130bhp 2-litre TDi engine into the Polo, giving a performance of 0-100 km/h in 9.3 seconds.

The new car, available initially in Germany, is now the top of the Polo engine range, which now has no less than nine engines available in some markets.

The move follows up the Seat division, which has had the 130bhp unit in its Ibiza since it was launched.

Alongside its high power output, the engine has torque of 310 Nm at just 1900 rpm.

The 96 kW / 130 PS TDI is available in the Polo, Polo Comfortline and Polo Highline, with two or four doors.

Standard Polo specification in Germany includes ABS, driver and front passenger airbags, driver and front passenger side airbags, electric/hydraulic power steering.

The new powerful Polo is also equipped with ESP, sports suspension and 195/55 R 15 tyres, and is priced from €15,680 in Germany.
