Sharan gets another nip and tuck

26 January 2004: Volkswagen’s biggest MPV, the Sharan, has been cosmetically enhanced for probably the last time.

The main features on the outside are a new look rear-end as well as door mirror mounted indicators as seen on most of the newer VW range.

Under pressure from within its own company's expanded model range, Sharan's spec sheet has grown to tempt buyers away from the new VW compact MPV, the Touran. Curtain airbags are now standard, as well as 16” alloys and front and rear parking sensors, a must-have in a car this size.

These additions coupled with the already generous levels of equipment on offer should see that the Sharan remains competitive. Irish prices have yet to be revealed, but expect some increases in line with such new niceties.

Otherwise the Sharan is pretty much unchanged, with no improvements to the already able chassis (available with VW’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system), or to the strong engine line-up.

Originally developed as a joint venture with Ford for that company's Galaxy, the Sharan is due for replacement within the next couple of years.
